Today I would like to
suggest a one day tour around Sibiu. I strongly recommend to rent a
bike and enjoy calmly all the beauties of this area. For that, my advise
is to go in Piata Mica (the Small Square), next to Podul Mincinosilor
(Liars’ Bridge) where you can find a rent-a-bike centre as well as a
tourist info-point.
The route I suggest
starts in the centre of Sibiu where the tourists are enchanted by the
beautiful buildings reflecting the specific architecture of the cities
where old Germans (die Sachsen) lived. In the same time, you will notice
why The Transylvanians say that time is pacient with people.
The paved streets of Sibiu will take you back in the Middle-Age but here and there you will see the marks of the 21st
century. Piata Mare (the Big Square), with its terraces, coffee-shops,
restaurants and bars is the ideal place to be for socializing and
getting updated with the real life of the city.
After that, ride the
bike and feel the wind in your hair in a warm-up to Muzeul Astra (Astra
Museum) which can be visited – be ready to be amazed: on bike! After a
short ride in the museum spreaded on several hectares, you should get
ready to meet eternity… To be more precise, I mean you should leave the
city and go to the villages next to it because according to a Romanian
poet ”The Eternity was born in a village!” This is why you should follow
the indicators to Cisnadioara village where you should visit the
Fortified Church. For more details on the fortified churches of the
Germans in Transylvania, please read our dedicated article on
mysteriousromania.com.
After visiting the
fortified church of Cisnadioara, we continue on our way to Cisnadie,
where we should visit the second fortified church. Both churches are
spectacular and impressive, mostly from an architectural point of view.
The visit charged our
batteries and made our souls lighter and so we start on our way back to
Sibiu, dreamers paying more attention to the small details of our
lives. On the road, we have appreciated more the green grass, the
mountains and the hills, the nature in its plenitude and also the people
living in these remote places, forgotten by time. Once again I became
nostalgic about the life in the country, in the middle of the nature, in
a remote village either on the hills or in the mountains, far from
civilization…
I wish to thank to my
friend Vlad Alexandru who shared with us the joy of this trip in the
nature. He is the one who took the photo, also.
I conclude this
article with the reccomendation to do this tour in spring or autumn,
when the nature reveals resurects or dies in very intense colours.
